The art of photographing a free-spirit lies not in capturing their physical beauty, but in capturing how they feel.
I’m Nadina Bee, outdoor wedding and dog lifestyle photographer from Guildford in Surrey. The outdoors is kind of my thing. Perhaps because I grew up on a (nearly) defunct farm. I say ‘nearly defunct’, because we had two pet horses and a dog. So we weren’t a farming family, but the stables were still in use. Life happened outdoors, in every season, in ever weather. To this day the outdoors continues to be my place of choice and you will find me walking the Surrey Hills with my dogs or playing with my goldfishes in the pond every day. However, there was one thing that I was missing during my childhood: the sea! There is something secret, magical, untamed about the sea that has always fascinated me and draws me to it. My dogs love the beach for an entirely different reason, but at least the whole family agrees that it is our favourite place and we all love to go for walks on the beach whenever we have a free day.
I love the unusual, the magical and the untamed in pretty much everything. Maybe that is why I love fantasy stories so much. Seriously, if I could move to Rivendell…who am I kidding, my and my daemon’s bags have been packed for decades. Unfortunately, the letter from Hogwarts never came, and I have given up on waiting for Gandalf to call.* So my husband and I are now supplying our own adventures, with the help of Clementine, our VW Camper. Follow me on Instagram or Facebook if you want to hear and see more of Clementine or my pups.
* did you guess the references: Tolkien (the Hobbit) , Pullman (His Dark Materials) and Rowling (Harry Potter)
I love the sea so much,
we travelled to Cornwall to have additional wedding photos taken…
MY PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY
I could now tell you the heart-warming story of how I picked up my first camera as a child and fell in love with photography… yes all true. But damn, that would be so boring! Bottom line is: I love a good photo. I love creating memories, and I love capturing those memories. I also value photography, because I have experienced how important they are afterwards.
Until you have celebrated your own wedding, you won’t know this, but: Your own wedding will be the shortest wedding you ever attend! We didn’t know this when we got married. We were simply lucky that we approached our wedding budget like “What will last the longest?” Our answer: “Rings and Photos”. Yes, I got a wedding ring as big as the Alps and I enjoy it every day. We weren’t prepared to find out just how important the photos would become. Photos documenting our day have brought back memories of precious little moments which we would otherwise have forgotten about by now. The value of a photo is not what it has cost to take or print it. Its value is how it makes you feel!
