What happens if your wedding photographer suddenly gets ill?

The worry of your wedding photographer suddenly getting ill and unable to photograph your wedding is a real. I hear it from my couples.

And I totally get it! I have been a bride myself.

So let me reassure you, I have thought of this and I have taken measures to reduce the risk as much as that is possible… here is what I do to make sure you will get those beautiful natural moments in photos that you chose me for.

What’s the risk of wedding photographer illness?

We are human, and no matter how well we look after ourselves, we can and do get ill.

Which means it is very important that we have a backup plan should we be unable to work.

The majority of us photographers work on our own, so it is understandable that you want to know what happens in case of your photographer suddenly coming down with an illness.

Three things I do in case I get ill

You might imagine us being competitors, trying to snap up a booking in front of another photographer’s eyes… and being natural enemies because of it.

You will be surprised!

Throw a group of wedding photographers together and the atmosphere is more beach party than office meeting.

Being self-employed in the wedding industry can be a lonely place, so it’s great to meet others. And as in any workplace, we make friends.

We also second shoot for each other and ask each other for advice. Over time, we get to know each other’s way of working very well and build up a network of trusted photographers.

I have such a network, which I can call on.

If I can’t photograph your wedding because of illness, I follow the industry standard:

I will dip into my pool of trusted photographers and pick one with a similar style as my own, who I think will be a great fit for you.

Of course, I will let you know as soon as possible if I am unable to photograph your wedding myself, and let you know who will be there on my behalf.

After your wedding, I will edit your photos myself. So you will still get your photos in the style you chose me for.

Shhh… happens and has happened to other wedding suppliers, who were incapacitated and could not arrange cover.

For this reason, I have put a mechanism in place which will allow my family to take the reins, should I be too unwell to make any arrangements myself.

Don’t worry!
I don’t share your personal details. My emergency mechanism respects your privacy while helping to assure you will not be left without a photographer on your big day. 

It is actually quite simple, but I will not explain the finer details here to protect my clients from scammers pretending they are making contact on my behalf.
But of course, I will happily talk you through it when you book me.

The most important thing is: I have made arrangements to make sure you won’t find yourself without a photographer on your wedding day.
