Your wedding photo gallery: in colour or black and white? Both!
Do you wonder how your photographer will decide which photos of your wedding or handfasting to deliver in colour and which in black and white?
And what do you do if there is a photo in colour that you want in black and white? Is it ok to ask? Will it cost extra?
How about getting both? A colour and a black and white wedding photo gallery
I know that most photographers make a call on this and deliver a mixed wedding photo gallery.
I really don’t!
Instead, I endeavour to deliver your whole wedding photo gallery in colour as well as in black and white, so you can chose whichever you like better.
In your gallery, you will find a folder of the full set of photo in colour and a separate folder with all your photos in black and white.
Are there exceptions?
There might be!
Sometimes a photo does not come out in colour at all. This can be for a variety of reasons regardless of the photographer’s skill or equipment, for example the type of artificial lighting at a venue or the lack of light indoors or in the evening.
A very effective tool in the photographer’s toolbox to rescue such a photo is to turn it into black and white.
Should the need arise, and in order to deliver a memorable moment that otherwise is unusable, I will include the rescued photo in black and white in both folders: the black and white, and the colour collection.
This way, you still have two full sets of your photos. And you know, if there is a black and white photo in your colour wedding photo gallery, then I am a superhero who brought a dead photo back to life.
But why don’t you chose what works best?
But why don’t you chose the ones that work best in black and white? You’re the professional, you would know best.
Sure, I can chose the photos that look better in black and white than in colour from an artistic point of view .
For example to rescue a photo from the ghastly dress choice of a guest’s where-is-Wally-shirt or the eye-watering-colour-combo carpet of your venue, I would always go for black and white.
But we are not choosing photos for an exhibition or a competition. And maybe you love that guest’s trademark crime-to-fashion outfit or even a carpet that would see me banned for life from any photography competition.
The only thing important with your wedding photo gallery is what you prefer.
It’s your wall/album/social media picture, not the Louvre! So I have decided that the choice simply has to be yours, and I supply your wedding photo gallery twice:
Once in the full extravagance of technicolour, and once in the cool and elegant tones of monochrome photography.
Help! I don’t know which one to get printed!
If you are not sure or can’t agree whether to order a print in colour or monochrome for your wall, then print the photo out on your home printer (yes, stuff the shitty quality, it will do for this) and stick it to the wall with some blue tack.
It usually becomes apparent really quickly, which one works better.
And if you still can’t decide, feel free to give me a call or drop me a note.
I am happy to answer your questions and give you a few pointers you might want to consider before ordering.
