Bad weather on your wedding day
I keep talking with my couples about the weather. Specifically, what to do in case of bad weather like stormy weather on your wedding day – or weather that’s too good.
And this is not small talk!
The weather can and does impact your wedding photos. So let’s talk about how we can save your photos in case of stormy weather on your wedding day.
Stormy wedding photos
Stormy weather is made up of two things, rain and a whole lot of wind.
I have talked about how to get great wedding photos in the rain last week. You can read about it here: Rain on your wedding day.
Today we talk about what happens and what we need to do, if there is a lot of wind, too.
How you can prepare for stormy weather on your wedding day
We live on an island, so the wind is an old friend of mine, so to speak.
First of all, let’s talk about just wind. I mean like strong wind and gusts.
As long as the wind does not make you uncomfortable or unable to stand, it adds a fabulous dramatic dimension to your photos. Very much in the style of old movies.
When the wind gets so strong that you can barely stand, that’s a different movie altogether: more Charlie Chaplin than Gone With The Wind. Ooops!
This is the time when an indoor alternative comes in handy. So have a think about where everything can take place indoors, that you have planned for outdoors. Just in case you need to move it.
But rest assured: as long as you are out there, I will be right there with you and taking photos!
What I do to prepare for storms on your wedding day
I will be fine!
To get your beautiful photos with added drama, I will simply adjust my camera settings to avoid blur.
Basically, I will have the camera take the photo quicker.
If I have problems standing still because the wind is so strong, I will find something to hide behind or I will crouch down.
There is a solution for every weather, and I will find it!
But what if it also rains, you ask.
Well, in that case I and my camera will be dressed for the rain and out there taking your photos. I describe how we will look in my blog post: Rain on Your Wedding Day.
For me as your all-weather wedding photographer, it is really as simple as putting the two actions together: get dressed for rain, then battle the winds.
