Receiving your wedding photos

alternative wedding photography, simplistic wedding bouquet

How and when will you receive your alternative wedding photos?

I’ve been asked what happens after your wedding and how you will be receiving your wedding photos… here is the truth, some of which you might not want to hear. Sorry!

After I stop shooting, I go home and I lie down ready to die, but happy.

No kidding! My friends run marathons, I photograph weddings.
I get the better endorphins kick though. Because I got to work your wedding!

How I keep your wedding photos safe

Let’s start at the end, I mean: the moment I leave your wedding.

My cameras write your photos to two memory cards simultaneously to assure no photos are ever lost. I talk in detail about this in my blog How to prevent losing all wedding photos: 10 things I do as a photographer.
Once I finished taking photos, I take one set of those cards out of my cameras, and keep them on my person on the way home.
If someone stole my camera bag now (luckily that never happened to me), we still got your photos.

The moment I get home, one of those sets of cards goes into a fire safe.

But I am not done yet!

Before I lie down and demand pity from my family, I switch my computer on and back up your photos. Twice! Once onto a hard drive and then into the cloud.
Backing up to the cloud usually takes until the early hours of the morning, so I just let that run while I finally relax.

Editing your wedding photos and sending you previews

I don’t book full day weddings two days in a row.
After having been on my feet all day carrying heavy kit, I don’t feel I would bring the same level and enthusiasm to the second wedding as I feel you deserve.

So the next day, I start working on your photos.
First or all, I make sure the backup to the cloud has been successful. Then I start culling.
This is where I get rid of the blurry and misfired photos. You don’t want photos of the floor or the grass, do you?!

Once culled, I will edit your photos individually.
This means I will open every single image, check it and edit it to make sure your photo gallery will have a coherent look about them.

I will pick out a few photos from different parts of your day and edit them first, so I can send you a little preview by email or via a blog. I aim to have this done within a week of your wedding.

Once I have edited all your photos individually, I will flick through your gallery and make sure the photos look consistent and there is no difference in lighting and colour tones.
Then I will convert your full gallery to black & white. And then flick through that gallery to make sure all the photos look great in black and white, too.

Delivering your wedding photos to you

Now all your photos have been edited, I will be uploading them to your online gallery.
This takes a few hours! You see, squeezing hundreds of big high resolution files through a skinny fibre optic cable… I am sure my neighbours know when you are receiving your wedding photos!

Once that’s done, I will send you an e-mail with all the info you need to access your password protected online gallery with your wedding photos.

In the gallery you can download your photos and order prints – with or without frame.

You can also share the gallery with your guests if you like. But be aware, that everyone you share the gallery with, will have the same access to downloads and prints as you do.
If you want to restrict this, let me know before you share!

If you have included a personalised sustainably sourced USB flash drive with your wedding package, then I will send this off to you about now.

How long does it take?

How long the whole process from your wedding to receiving your wedding photos in your online gallery takes, depends on a number of factors, like: how many photos I have taken at your wedding, and whether there are other couples in the editing queue in front of you.

Once I start editing your full set of photos, it takes on average 3 to 4 weeks to get the online gallery ready.

I will be able to give you a better time estimate once I know your wedding date. Just ask!

Want to find out if I am available on your wedding date?

If you would like to know whether I am available on your date, or you have more questions, drop me a message via the contact form.

My blog What to Expect When You Enquire explains how I reply to your enquiry and how to find out more.

I look forward to hearing about your wedding!
